The greatest gift that people have in raising children lies in the way children think. Children naturally see the world as being governed by a set of rules that they see as absolute. They see their father and mother as being a good people, no matter what wrongs they have committed. They understand that cussing is bad, drinking is wrong, and pornography is wrong, even though those around them are using or cursing. Children understand their world as right verses wrong, black verses white. This view can be capitalized on. Creating rules that are absolute, concrete, and easy to understand helps a child understand what is expected of them. The child will understand the concept of absolute rules because it is natural for him to think in those terms. Once the concept of an absolute rule is established, the child can begin to learn that absolute rules also apply to him. Applying the following principles will assist the child in learning that lesson.
